About the Club
Located near Elstree, in beautiful rural Hertfordshire, Aldenham Sailing Club offers the get- away- from- it- all thrill and enjoyment of dinghy sailing within easy travelling distance of London.
Aldenham Sailing Club welcomes new members of all sailing abilities and ages including beginners and experienced club racers. Situated in the midst of attractive countryside in the placid setting of Aldenham Country Park – in easy reach from London suburbs with excellent road access via the M1, A41, A1 and M25 and sited at an old established mature reservoir, Aldenham offers all year round sailing in a variety of conditions.
Aldenham is one of the oldest established sailing clubs in the UK a home to sailing since the 1920’s and counts some famous sailing personalities amongst former members including boat designer Ian Proctor.
The club is family orientated and maintains fleets of Pico and Optimist dinghies ideal for novice juniors to learn the sailing basics, and provides sailing tuition for junior members.
For adults the active racing fleets of Lasers, Illusions, Enterprises and RS300 dinghies offer class racing to suit all abilities, with a variety of other boats sailed also by some members. A well organised full racing programme runs throughout the year for dinghies on Sundays, and Illusions on Wednesdays. Also very popular during the summer months is Wednesday evening racing – with members congregating after sailing at the local Fishery public house.
Open-meetings are hosted for our classes. The club runs training courses for beginners and more experienced sailors of all ages. Members are entitled to free use of the water and club facilities, at any time, subject to restrictions during racing and providing adequate safety cover is available.
For those that may be intimidated by racing, the club actively encourages cruising for families and less confident sailors on Sunday afternoons. Ad-hoc training and advice is also available on request.
