Laser Open 2012
Aldenham SC Laser Open 2012 Race Report
On Sunday 10th June 12 local boats and 4 visitors lined up for the Aldenham Open. There was a fickle light south easterly breeze to contend with making the racing quite tricky with large amounts of ground being made up and lost on the shifts and the gusts.
In the first race Mathew Aldous-Home got off to a good start and led by a comfortable margin from Krzysztof Bonicki at the first mark. These two maintained their advantage to the end of the race with Alan Bishop leading the rest in for third.
After the start of the second race a significant wind shift on the first beat meant that the boats on the right hand side of the course arrived at the windward mark first by some distance. First round was Mike Willcock followed by Anthony Cole. They maintained their lead for most of the race with the rest of the fleet playing catch up. The pursuing pack was led by Colin Carver who managed to edge into the lead on the final lap. Up the final beat to the finish there were quite a few position changes with Mathew Aldous-Home just edging out Colin with Steve Fischer third.
So Mathew could now not be beaten. The third race would now decide the subsequent positions. Alan Bishop got off to a good start and led at the windward mark. The wind was by now playing even more tricks, shifting around and at times almost dying completely. Alan managed to hold on to the finish and after a lot of swapping about Mathew claimed second with Adrian Degge third. So overall:
1st Mathew Aldous-Home
2nd Alan Bishop
3rd Krzysztof Bonicki
Steve Fischer
Class Captain
